The Protocol Department of the Ministry is responsible of ensuring relations between Somalia and other countries are conducted in accordance with international protocol practices and adjusted accordingly to Somalia’s local customs and the principle of reciprocity.

Department of Maritime and Ocean Affairs under the Ministry for Foreign Affairs & Investment Promotion is responsible for international and multilateral agreements, development co-operation, and for Somalia’s participation in international organizations, agencies, conferences and meetings related to maritime and ocean affairs. The department looks after Somalia’s marine resource and environment interests internationally and aims at safeguarding Somalia’s interests. Marine issues, including the law of the sea, have always comprised a major part of the activities of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The Department of Maritime and Ocean Affairs will be responsible on:
- Coordination of national position concerning maritime and ocean affairs in international level;
- Oversee maritime and ocean affairs relating to maritime boundary delimitation, conventions and international legal frameworks and maritime security;
- Protect the marine resources and environment through representation of Somalia in international organizations, agencies, conferences and meetings.
- Coordination of involved institutions on maritime and ocean affairs;
